INKBLOT POST

The Easter Vigil

The Easter Vigil is the high point of the Christian year—a rich and beautiful liturgy that celebrates the Resurrection of Christ.

It begins in darkness, outside the church, with the blessing of the new fire and the lighting of the Paschal Candle. As the candle enters the darkened church, the light spreads from person to person, symbolising Christ’s victory over darkness.

The Liturgy of the Word follows, recounting the story of salvation from creation to the Resurrection. Then comes the Liturgy of Baptism, where new members are welcomed into the Church and the faithful renew their baptismal promises.

Finally, the Eucharist is celebrated with great joy. The church, once dark and silent, is now filled with light, music, and alleluias.

The Vigil proclaims the central truth of the Christian faith: that death is not the end. Christ is risen, and in Him, new life is given to all.
